Mont Tremblant, Quebec, Canada
The Rundown: We actually got out of bed early enough to get downstairs before the hotel breakfast ended at 9:30am. That was surprising all by itself! After breakfast we set out to explore the village of Mont Tremblant. I was freezing the minute we walked outside. I managed to pack a jacket for everyone except myself, so our first mission was to find a jacket for me. We hit a couple of shops, and as expected, found tons of "resort" prices. I managed to find a nice sweatshirt on sale for about $35 and considered myself lucky since everything else I looked at was over a hundred!
After properly attiring myself for the weather we headed to the other end of the village to visit the tourist center. We were disappointed to find out that most of the activities we had planned to do were not open yet! From what I read online before our trip we should have had plenty to do, but when we got here the schedule had changed. The luge, the rock climbing, the spiderweb, the Euro bungee, almost EVERYTHING opens after June 24th! I was so upset! We did get to ride the gondola to the top of the mountain, which was amazing! We hiked around and got to climb to the top of an incredible lookout tower. You could see a rain shower coming across the lake. It was so cool! The girls loved that part, but the wind was brutal, so we didn't stay on the lookout tower for long. I managed to fall down on my way to the tower and banged up my knee a little. It didn't hurt, but my back gave me fits the rest of the day. Being pregnant makes me clumsy!
After climbing around at the mountain's peak we were starving! We rode the gondola back down and headed into the village and stopped at a local pizza joint. We just loved their food, but I was a little surprised at their prices! We paid $53.48CAD + tip for PIZZA! Also, we realized that free refills are NOT offered in Canada. Lesson learned!
We spent a little more time wandering around the village then came back to the hotel for a bit to rest. The village is set on a steep hill, so I was worn out from climbing up and down. The kids were dying to go swimming, so even though it was only about 65 degrees we went down to the pool. It was, thankfully, heated, so David and the kids were able to swim for a while. I lounged in the hot tub (which really wasn't even as hot as my baths!) for a few minutes, then just dried off and sat in the sun while they played. It only took about 45 minutes for them to get cold enough to only want to swim in the hot tub, which was almost as big as the pool!
After swimming for a while we headed up and got cleaned up so we could go to dinner. We were planning to go to the bar and grill right next to our hotel for a snack, but they were hosting a private function so we had to walk back down that steep hill to find dinner. We ended up eating at Restaurant Casey's, which was actually pretty good! I had a salad with some yummy grilled shrimp, David had baby back ribs, Reese ate David's fries and Katie had a chicken quesadilla and chicken noodle soup. She LOVED that soup! She drained her cup of soup in about two minutes and after eating her meal she ordered a huge bowl and ate every bit of it. She was a hungry girl!
We were totally exhausted after dinner so we headed in and went to bed. Even though we didn't get to do some of the activities we wanted to do we still had a great day. Mont Tremblant is beautiful.
High Points of the Day:
Me, Reese & David: Riding the gondola.
Katie: Chicken noodle soup from Casey's!
Low Points of the Day:
Me: Falling at the overlook.
Katie: Not getting to try rock climbing.
Reese: Asking for gum, and being promised a quarter to buy gum after dinner, then not getting the quarter.
David: Dealing with Reese's fit over not having quarters for gum, even after asking for change for a $5 bill, specifically in quarters, and getting two $2 coins and one $1 coin.
